Mimi Dye & The TOPAZ Jazz Ensemble

Mimi Dye, prominent American violist and composer, and the the Jazz Ensemble bring uplifting original compositions to Peña Pachamama.

Mimi Dye's unique jazz and world compositions are inspired by Latin jazz, Cape Verde world music, and Middle Eastern sounds and rhythms. Come celebrate with us and hear tunes from the "River in the Sun" album and a concert suite based on her jazz viola concerto, "One Beautiful Light."

Musicians include Jim Schneider, piano, Donna Viscuso, flute and saxophone, Saul Sierra, bass, and Michaelle Goerlitz, percussion.

Mimi Dye & The TOPAZ All-Stars

Anna's Jazz Island

 

Mimi Dye, violist and composer, and the All-Stars presented an evening of contemporary Latin jazz/world music at Anna's on August 14.

Music included songs from the "River in the Sun" CD and a new arrangement of "One Beautiful Light," originally performed as a jazz viola concerto with the TOPAZ All-Stars and the San Jose Chamber Orchestra. Beautiful standards by Jobim and other Latin greats rounded out the evening.

The All-Stars include some of the best Latin jazz/world musicians in the Bay Area, including: Donna Viscuso on flute, Seward McCain on bass, Vic Schrader on guitar, and Lali Mejia on percussion.

TOPAZ presents a Benefit Concert for
All Saints' Episcopal Church Outreach Programs

TOPAZ presents a unique and timely benefit concert for the outreach programs of All Saints' Church in Palo Alto. In this time of war, fear, and misunderstanding, TOPAZ presents a concert promoting peace and bridging the musical cultures of East and West.

TOPAZ, an innovative world-class music ensemble founded by Director Mimi Dye, violist, has invited special guests Hamed Nikpay, Persian multi-instrumentalist and singer, and Armena Marderosian, pianist and founder of the Suni Project, to join TOPAZ for this unique and timely musical journey.

Compositions by Grikor Mirzaian Suni, world-renowned Armenian composer of the early 20th century, will be performed by members of TOPAZ and Armena Marderosian, pianist, eminent researcher and founder of the Suni Project. Also featured will be the original musical compositions of Hamed Nikpay, one of Iran's most celebrated multi-instrumentalists and vocalists, set to the inspirational poetry of Persian masters Rumi and Hafez. Jazz and world music original compositions by the founders of TOPAZ complete this evening of extraordinary music.

Performers for this TOPAZ concert include Mimi Dye, violist; Jane Lenoir, flutist; Armena Marderosian, pianist; Hamed Nikpay, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist; Peter Barshay, jazz bassist; Vic Schrader, jazz guitarist; and Curt Moore, jazz drummer.

A wine, cheese, and dessert reception with the musicians, and an art exhibit from the Killen Gallery, follow in the Parish Hall. Tickets for the entire event are $25 in advance and $30 at the door.

A percentage of the net profits will be donated to the Outreach Programs of All Saints' Church, which include the Opportunity Center, InnVision, and Urban Ministry.
